OUT OF THE SHADOWS ESSAY CONTEST

Application is now open!

The Out of the Shadows (OOTS) Essay Contest is a financial resource for undocumented college students. The OOTS Essay Contest was developed in 2012 by Chispas, a student organization at the University of Florida that focuses on immigrant rights and immigrant advocacy. Every year, we award $500 to one high school and one college student who is undocumented and striving to pursue higher education. 

Requirements:

  1.  Application Form (linked below in English and Spanish)

  2. Personal Statement (available in application form)

  3. Resume

  4. Official or Unofficial Transcript (High School or College) or Copy of GED Certificate

Below are some scholarships that are open to DACA students and/or undocumented students. Please email us or message us through the contact part of the website if you know of any other scholarships. If you are a Florida Gator and you are awarded any of these, let us know! We would like to spotlight and congratulate you and ask about the process.

"Registered undergraduate full-time Juniors or Seniors at accredited four-year colleges or universities in the United States during the Fall 2020 Semester."

 "We think of our National Scholarship as the “Pell Grant” for highly motivated DREAMers with significant, unmet financial need."

"The Adelante Caiman scholarship was established to support immigrant students who strive to get ahead and onwards with their educational ambitions but are unable to obtain federal or state financial support to make those goals a reality." This is for students attending the University of Florida.

"The Dr. Rafael and Mrs. J. Fe Padron de Angulo Scholarship honors the memory, dedication, and service of a couple who positively influenced the Gainesville Latino community for decades." This is for students attending the University of Florida.

"The Colonel Glenn A. Farris Scholarship recognizes the importance of hard work and dedication." This is for students attending the University of Florida.

"The Esperanza Garcia-Loynaz Memorial Scholarship will award a $500 grant to an admitted UF Law student who also attended UF for his or her undergraduate studies." This is for students attending the University of Florida.
